A book exhibition «Margulan murasy – ulttyk rukhaniyatymyzdyn kazynasy» dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the outstanding Kazakh scientist, archaeologist, historian, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR Alkey Khakanovich Margulan was organized in the hall for scientists named after U.M. Sultangazin.

Alkey Margulan was born on May 11, 1904 in the village of Akbettau in Bayanaul district of Pavlodar region.He graduated from teaching courses in Pavlodar and taught at the Dalba school of Bayanaul district (1920), a student of the Semipalatinsk Pedagogical College and an employee of the editorial offices of the magazine «Tan» and the newspaper «Kazakh Tili»  (1921-1925), graduated in Leningrad Philological Faculty of the Oriental Institute (1929), Scientific Secretary of the Terminological Commission of the Kaznarkompros (1930-1931), postgraduate student of the Leningrad State Academy of the History of Material Culture (1931-1934), trainee, researcher at the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1936-1938), senior researcher, head of the sector of the Institute of History of the Kazakh branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1939-1946), head sector, Head of the Department, Senior Researcher at the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan (1946-1985).

He researched monuments of material culture and ancient art, issues of literature and the historical and heroic epic of the Kazakh people. Since the mid-1950s, under the guidance of the scientist, information and materials were collected about the prominent Kazakh scientist-educator Ch.Ch. Valikhanov, a collection of works by Ch. Valikhanov. He headed the Coordinating Council on the Ethnogenesis of the Kazakh people, the Academic Council of the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, the Specialized Council for the Defense of doctoral dissertations, organized the famous Central Kazakhstan archaeological expedition of 1946-1974. Archaeological research in Central Kazakhstan by Alkeya Khakanovich is presented in the monograph «Begazy Dandybaev culture of Central Kazakhstan».

Margulan conducted archaeological excavations of Otrar, Taraz, Sairam and Syganak. He discovered unique archaeological sites of the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age.

He brilliantly studied the history of the period of Abylai Khan, Abulkhair, Kenesary, Kasym Khan, took part in the creation of a multi-volume academic publication «History of the Kazakh SSR: (from ancient times to the present day)». He is the author of more than 300 scientific and popular scientific publications. More than 50 PhD and doctoral dissertations have been defended under the supervision of A.H. Margulan.

He was awarded the Orders of Lenin (1967), the Red Banner of Labor (1973), Friendship of Peoples (1984), medals, diplomas and a Certificate of Honor of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR. Honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR. Laureate of the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR.

The purpose of the book exhibition is to get acquainted with the great contribution of the scientist to the research of the history, culture and science of the Kazakh people, to popularize the outstanding personality of the first archaeologist –academician of Kazakhstan.

The book exhibition consists of two sections. The first section «Kazaktyn Tangysh maman – archaeologist» is presented in the encyclopedia, bibliographic reference books and reflects materials about the life and work of A.Margulan.

The second section of the book exhibition «Alkey Margulan – kone halyk murasyn phenomenon» introduces readers to the works of the academician and his memories: «Archaeological exploration in the basin of the Sary-su river» (1947), «From the history of the cities of the construction art of ancient Kazakhstan» (1950), «Begazy Dandybaev culture of Central Kazakhstan» (1979), «Kazakh folk applied art» in 3 volumes (1986-1994), Collected works in 14 volumes (2003); (2011), «Alkey Margulan turaly estelikter»(2004), etc.
