The World Literature Hall has organized a book exhibition «Heroes of Kazakhstan in World War II» dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Heroes of the Soviet Union - Aliya Moldagulova, Sagadat Nurmaganbetov, National Hero Rakhimzhan Koshkarbayev and the 125th anniversary of Ivan Babin.                                                                              

The soldiers of Kazakhstan in the Second World War took part in all combat fronts and battles, showing mass heroism and courage. During the war years, 1 million 200 thousand Kazakhstanis were mobilized to the front, more than 600 thousand people died.  More than 100,000 soldiers from Kazakhstan were awarded military orders and medals, more than 500 people were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

Aliya Nurmukhambetovna Moldagulova was born on October 25, 1925 in the village of Bulak in the Khobdinsky district of the Aktobe region. In 1942, she joined the Red Army as a volunteer, graduated from sniper school in 1943, and went to the front the same year. She fought as part of the 26th Infantry Division of the 2nd Baltic Front. She was distinguished by her fearlessness and heroism in battles. She became famous as a sharpshooter. On January 14, 1944, during the capture of the Fascist stronghold, she was mortally wounded. She has 78 enemy soldiers and officers killed on her account. For the feat she accomplished on June 4, 1944, Aliya Moldagulova was posthumously awarded the title «Hero of the Soviet Union» and was awarded the Order of Lenin.

Nurmaganbetov Sagadat Kozhakhmetovich was born on May 25, 1924 in the village of Kosym, Akkol district, Akmola region. From 1943 to 1945, he fought on the fronts as a commander of a machine gun platoon. He participated in the liberation of the Krasnodar Territory, Ukraine, Moldova and Poland, as well as in the storming of the building of Hitler's Reich Chancellery. On February 27, 1945, he was awarded the title «Hero of the Soviet Union» and awarded the «Gold Star». In October 1991, by decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, he was appointed Chairman of the State Defense Committee, and in May 1992 – Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan. In 1994, by presidential decree, he was awarded the title of «National Hero». He died in 2013 in Almaty.

Koshkarbayev Rakhimzhan Koshkarbaevich was born on October 19, 1924 in the village of Taytobe, Akmola region. In 1942, he was drafted into the army. He fought in Poland and Germany. He showed courage and heroism in the Berlin operation. Koshkarbayev, along with Private G.Bulatov, were the first to plant a flag over the Reichstag. He was awarded the Order of the Red Cross for fighting in Berlin and in the Reichstag, the Order of the Patriotic War of the first 1st degree for fighting at the crossing of the Oder river and the medal «For the Capture of Berlin», in 1985 the Order of the Patriotic War of the first 2nd degree. R.Koshkarbayev died in 1988 in Almaty. By decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 7, 1999, he was posthumously awarded the highest degree of distinction – the title of «National Hero».

Babin Ivan Vasilyevich was born in 1899 in the village of Zhelezinka, Pavlodar region. In 1941, he was called up to serve in the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. Since June 1941, he served on the fronts of the Second World War. In 1944, Junior Sergeant Ivan Babin commanded a detachment of the 5th Guards Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Guards Cavalry Division of the 1st Cavalry Corps of the 38th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated April 10, 1945, I.V. Babin was posthumously awarded the title «Hero of the Soviet Union».

The book exhibition presents materials from the fund of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the life and exploits of heroes of Kazakhstan, literature about them. The exhibition introduces readers to publications dedicated to the events of the Second World War in different languages of the peoples of the world.
