On December 1, the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted a meeting with the participation of Adviser to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Otarbayev Malik Nurzhanovich on attracting the younger generation to reading and literature and the formation of a literate Kazakh society.

The purpose of the event is to consider problems in the field of librarianship and propose ways to solve them, as well as to determine the further development of librarianship, improving the spiritual life of the country's citizens.

The event was moderated by children's writer, literary critic, Alash scholar, laureate of the Youth Prize of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, member of the Writers' Union of Kazakhstan Eldos Toktarbai. The word was given to the Adviser to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, M.N. Otorbaev, who in his speech raised many issues related to the library sector, listened to the proposals of librarians, answered the questions of the participants of the meeting.

Deputy Director for Library Work of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yusupova A.H. made a report on increasing the reading activity of the population.

The director of the Republican Library for Blind and Visually Impaired citizens Bayuzakov A.K. also spoke on the topic "Projects and implemented measures of the Republican library for blind and visually impaired citizens for citizens with disabilities", Director of the Centralized library system of Almaty Bektembayev M.E. on "The direction of creating a new type of libraries in Almaty" and a specialist of the exhibitions and cultural programs service Yertai Bilal of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the topic of promoting reading among young people.

About 150 specialists took part in the event:  The Republican Library for Blind and Visually impaired citizens, the Centralized Library System of Almaty, heads and librarians of universities, colleges, schools and public libraries of Almaty and Almaty region. The participants of the meeting raised topical issues of Kazakhstani libraries and made proposals for further improvement of librarianship.

In conclusion, Advisor to the President M.N. Otarbayev noted the importance of the meeting and the problems raised, the possibility of solving them, and also expressed gratitude to all the gathered librarians for their active participation.
