A book exhibition «Khalkynyn ardakty uly – Saken seri» dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the outstanding Kazakh writer, playwright and translator Saken Zhunusov was organized in the O. Zhandosov reading room of the «Kazakhstan Kitaptary» Service.

Saken Nurmakovich Zhunusov was born on February 1, 1934 in the village of Kyzyl-Tu in the North Kazakhstan region. In 1957, he graduated from the Faculty of Philology and postgraduate studies of the Kazakh State University named after S.Kirov (now al-Farabi Kazakh National University).

He began his career as a literary employee of the Pioneer magazine. In 1960 – 1964 - head of the literature department of the Kazakh State Academic Drama Theater named after M. Auezov, in 1964-1968 - an employee of the editorial office of the newspaper «Kazakh adebieti», then director of the Kazakh branch of the USSR Literary Fund, secretary of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan (1988-1992). Since 1992, he has been working in creative work.

S.Zhunusov is known as a playwright and the author of 17 plays. In 1986, he became the laureate of the Kazakh SSR Prize, and in 1996 - the People's writer of Kazakhstan.

The book exhibition consists of two sections. The first section of the exhibition «Kos zhanrdyn zhyrigi» reflects materials about the life and work of the writer S.Zhunusov: encyclopedias, bibliographic reference books and literature about him.

The second section «Saryarkanyn serisi» presents the creative legacy of Saken Zhunusov, his famous works: «Sonarda» (1959), «Ajem men emshi zhane dariger» (1961), «House in the Steppe» (1968), «Oshpeitin izder» (1968), «Akan Seri» (1971), «Zhapandagy zhalgyz uy» (1990) and others.

The works of the writer reflect the past and present life in all its complexity, tell about interesting destinies. The heroes of his books are distinguished by the desire to search for truth, nobility and purity of thoughts.

The most famous work of S. Zhunusov was the dilogy «Akan Seri» - a novel about the famous Kazakh akyn of the nineteenth century. The book depicts vivid pictures of the social life, way of life and customs of the Kazakh nomads of the second half of the nineteenth century. And the author himself was nicknamed «Saken Seri» by his compatriots for his multifaceted talent.

The purpose of the book exhibition is to get acquainted with the personality, popularize creative activities and attract readers attention to the literary heritage of S. Zhunusov.
