In the reading room of the Department of Arts organized book exhibition "Asyl tughan Gulfairus" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the painter, People's Artist of Kazakhstan, Honored Artist of Kazakhstan, actress Gulfairus Mansurovna Ismailova (1929-2013).

Gulfairus Ismailova was born December 15, 1929 in Almaty. In 1949 she graduated from Almaty Art College, where she studied in the studio of the national artist of the Kazakh SSR A.M. Cherkassky, in 1956 - Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin in the class of painting of M.P. Bobyshev. In 1956-1957 she taught at Almaty Art School. From 1971 to 1974 she worked as the chief artist of the Kazakh Abai Opera and Ballet Theatre. She created the sketches for the scenery and costumes of the operas: "Er Targyn" by E. Brusilovsky (1967), "Zhumbak kyz" by S. Mukhamedzhanov (1972), "Cio-Cio-San" by G. Puccini (1972), the ballets "Dostyk zholymen" by N. Tlendiev (1957) and "Kamar sulu" by V. Velikanov (1958), and the movie "Kyz Zhibek" (1969-1971).

Gulfairus Ismailova is the author of many portraits ("Kazakh Waltz. Portrait of Shary Zhiyenkulova" (1958); Portrait of Sholpan Dzhandarbekova "(1960) as Aktokta in the play G. Musrepov" Tragedy of the Poet "," Portrait of Kulyash Baiseitova as Kyz-Zhibek "(1962) and others.

She was awarded the "Badge of Honor", "Friendship of Nations" and "Parasat". In 2002 she was awarded the "Tarlan" prize for her contribution to the art of the republic.

The book exhibition presents materials about life and creative activity of Gulfairus Ismailova from the collection of books and periodicals of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
