There in the reading-hall after Oraz Zhandosov is organized the book exhibition “Kazak rukhaniyatynyn zhanashyry”, dedicated to the life and activity of the well-known Kazakhstani writer, translator and publicist Gerold Karlovich Belger.

Gerold Belger was born on October 28, 1934 in the city of Engels of the Saratovskaya region in the family of the Volga-region Germans. In 1941 his family was deported to Kazakhstan, to the Kazakh aul at the Ishim river. He studied at the Kazakh secondary school. In 1958 he graduated from the literary faculty of the Kazakh pedagogical institute after Abai, in 1963 – the post-graduate course at that very institute.

National library of the RK in its fonds keeps more than 500 materials about the life and activity of the writer: his works, translations, the multiple publications, the literary-critical works, and articles on the pages of the periodical editions, and also the materials about him. The creative heritage of the writer, which imbibed the traditions of the Kazakh, German and Russian culture, became the moral and spiritual beacon in the formation of the inter-cultural dialogue, the collection of the value commandments for the future generation.

In 2016 there in the reading hall of “Kazakhstan kitaptary” of National library of the RK with the purpose of commemoration of the memory of the well-known author G. Belger and the popularization of his creative heritage was opened the memorial cabinet. Here is re-created the interior of the home work cabinet and there kept here the private things of the writer.

The first part of the book exhibition “Kazak rukhaniyatynyn zhanashyry” acquaints the readers with the materials about the life and creative activity of G. Belger. The writer began his labour activity in 1953 as a laboratory worker, after that as teacher of the secondary school in the Southern-Kazakhstani region. From 1963 the literary worker of the magazine “Zhuldyz”, from 1989 - chairman of the German national-cultural centre, from 1995 – chief editor of the almanac “Phoenix”, from 1998 – chairman of the board of the Foundation “Soros-Kazakhstan”. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the RK from the Pavlodarskaya region (1994-1995), chairman of the German cultural society of Almaty city. Member of the Council of Germans of Kazakhstan, National council for the state policy of the President of the RK on the affairs of the UNESCO. He was awarded with the orders of “Parasat”, “For the merits before the Federative Republic of Germany”, the Presidential prize of peace and spiritual concordance, the independent prize “Tarlan” and the medals. The honored worker of culture of the RK. The winner of the prize of the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan after B. Mailin.

The second part of the exhibition acquaints the readers with the creative activity of the writer of G. Belger. His works are always filled with the deep meaning of human relations, love for the native region, the high civil position and patriotism: “The pine-tree house at the end of the aul” (1973), “The seagulls above the steppe” (1976), “Behind the six passes” (1977), “Brother among brothers” (1981), “The stone ford” (1987), “Tomorrow will be the sun” (1992), “The earth selected ones” (Goethe, Abai) (1995), “Remember your name” (1999), “The Kazakh word” (2001), “The house of the vagabond” (2003), “The harmony of the spirit” (2003), “Tuyuk su” (2004), “The ode to the translation” (2005), “The discord” (2008), “The selected works”  in 10 volumes (2009-2010). The author of more than 1800 publications. G. Belger translated into the Russian language the works of the classics of Kazakh literature B. Mailin, G. Musrepov, A. Nurpeyisov and others.

There in the third part of the book exhibition are presented the books and articles of the well-known Kazakhstani personalities about G. Belger on the pages of the periodical editions.

The purpose of the exhibition is to tell the readers about the life and creative activity of the outstanding Kazakhstani writer G. Belger who made a considerable contribution into the flourishing of the literature and culture of the people of Kazakhstan, the dynamic development of the Kazakh language.
