The exhibition «Er yesimi- el yesinde», dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the officer, participant of the Great Patriotic War, publicist, «Halyk Кaharmany» Rakhymzhan Koshkarbayev, was organized in the hall of the Periodicals Service.

Rakhymzhan Koshkarbayev tells about his life in the book «Assault». R.Koshkarbayev was born on October 19, 1924 in the Akmola district of the Akmola region, was raised in an orphanage. After graduating from the 7-year school, he was sent to the Balkhash Factory School.

Rakhymzhan goes to the front of the Great Patriotic War at the age of 18 and takes part in crossing the Oder and Spree rivers. In the battle for Berlin, Rakhimzhan and his platoon are in the very front ranks. They get to the Royal square, to the «Himmler house» first. Here, Lieutenant Koshkarbayev is given an order of historical importance - to plant a Red Banner over the Reichstag building. The distance from the «Himmler House» to the Reichstag is only 360 meters. But it was an open square, shelled from all sides. Lieutenant Koshkarbayev passed these blood meters with his soldiers in 7 hours. On April 30, at 6.30 pm, a Red banner was hoisted on the pediment of the Reichstag. The exploits of Rakhymzhan Koshkarbayev in the Great Patriotic War are praised in fiction, articles in periodicals are dedicated to him. R.Koshkarbayev was awarded the Orders of the Red Banner, the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Red Banner of Battle (for hoisting the banner over the Reichstag) and medals «For the Capture of Berlin», «For the Liberation of Warsaw». Rakhymzhan Koshkarbayev died in 1988. In 2001, he was posthumously awarded the title of «Halyk kaharmany».

The exhibition presents documents from the fund of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan. These are materials, articles and memoirs of public figures, associates and friends about R.Koshkarbayev.
