On April 23, 2024, at 10.00 a.m., the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan will host the annual book festival «Kitapshow-2024», dedicated to the World Book and Copyright Day, which is celebrated by millions of people in more than a hundred countries around the world.

The purpose of the festival is to increase reader activity, support interest in books and reading, arouse interest in fiction, form an information culture of the individual and a culture of reading.

Celebrating World Book and Copyright Day, we express recognition of the significant role of books in preserving and increasing the human capital of the country. Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev constantly pays special attention to reading. This year, at the third meeting of the National Kurultai in Atyrau, the President once again stressed the importance of the book, noting that: «First of all, we must instill in young people a love of reading. The most significant steps to the progress of our nation are books.Therefore, we must continue to root a high culture of reading in society».

As part of the festive event, the following events will be organized:

• memorial evening «Shaken Aimanov- Kazakh kinosyn atasy2, dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the outstanding Kazakh actor, director of theater and cinema, People's Artist Shaken Aimanov;
• interactive event «Aesthetics of intercultural dialogue», held by the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Kazakhstan (Almaty) with the participation of Russian writers;
• master class on expressive reading «Syrly soz sikyry»;
• literary-themed evening «Kazakhstan –Iran: «Nauryznama» madenietter undestigi» (Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty)
• Open Place USW- Community of writers of Kazakhstan (interactive platform for meeting authors, independent theaters and book exchange);
• presentation of the popular science book «Kazakhstan meteorites» by Ildar Khalitov;
• book fair of leading Kazakhstani publishing houses;
• exhibition of products of the national decorative and applied arts;
