On April 23, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., as part of the celebration of National Book Day, an online meeting was held in the Great Hall of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan with Honorary Doctor of Philology of the Open University of Hong Kong, Nobel Prize winner in Literature, Chinese writer Mo Yan on the topic: «World literature is the basis of national spirituality.»

On April 23, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., as part of the celebration of National Book Day, an online meeting was held in the Great Hall of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan with Honorary Doctor of Philology of the Open University of Hong Kong, winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature, Chinese writer Mo Yan on the topic: «World literature is the basis of national spirituality.» The event was held as part of the activities of the Hall of Culture and Literature of China with the support of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Almaty.

The event was moderated by Adilet Akhmet, a researcher at the Baitursynov House Museum. Director of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan G.K. Nurgaliyeva and Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Almaty, Ms. Jiang Wei, delivered a welcoming speech. Zhusipbek Korgasbek spoke on behalf of the Writers' Union of Kazakhstan. Duken Masimkhanuly, Director of the R.B. Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies, and Nabizhan Mukhametkanuly, Doctor of Historical Sciences, introduced the audience to the writer's work.

During the meeting, Mo Yan shared his desire to get to know Kazakh authors and their works, as well as his views on the development of modern literature, spoke about his creative path and sources of inspiration, and answered questions from the participants. Special attention was paid to his famous works such as «The Land of Wine», «Red Gaolian» and «The Frog».

As part of the event, participants were presented with a virtual book exhibition about the writer's life and work from the collection of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The meeting was attended by writers, students, teachers, library readers, and anyone interested in Chinese literature and culture. The event left a lot of vivid impressions for all participants.

The organizers of the event thanked Mo Yan for the interesting conversation and expressed their willingness to continue the literary dialogue between the two countries. Letters of thanks and books were presented to the active participants of the event on behalf of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
