Золя

The book exhibition «The Literary Legacy of Emile Zola», dedicated to the 185th anniversary of the birth of the French writer, playwright and publicist, has been organized in the Hall of World Literature.

The purpose of the book exhibition is to introduce the library's readers to the life and work of Emile Zola.

Emile Zola is a cult figure of world literature, the founder of naturalism, a journalist, and a public figure. He viewed literature as a science, and the writer as a researcher who recorded human destinies and social processes with the precision of an experimenter and, as the founder of naturalism, sought to show life in all its truth, without embellishment.

Emile Zola is best known for his large-scale 20–volume series «Rougon-Macquarie», in which he showed the story of one family against the backdrop of global social changes in France during the last thirty years of the 19th century. In his works, he raised acute issues of society, class inequality. Zola is not just a writer, but a chronicler of his time. His works continue to inspire, making us think about social justice, human nature and the fate of society. The author's works have been repeatedly adapted into films.

The book exhibition from the fund of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan presents unique books in French published during the author's lifetime: «The Spoils» (La Curee, 1872); «The Conquest of Plassans» (La Conquete de Plassans, 1874); «The Career of the Rougons» (La Fortune des Rougon, 1875); «The Womb Paris» (Le Ventre de Paris, 1880); «The Earth» (La Terre, 1887) and other books in Russian, Kazakh, English, Chinese, German and Romanian languages of various years of publication.

There are also books by researchers of the writer's work: A. Puzikov «The Life of Zola» (1981); E.P. Kuchborskaya «Emile Zola – literary critic» (1978); index of literature L.G. Bernshtam «Emile Zola» (1941); bibliographic index G. I. Leshchinskaya «Emile Zola» (1975). In total, about 100 copies of literature are presented at the exhibition.
