Mo Yan is a modern Chinese writer, Honorary Doctor of Philology from the Open University of Hong Kong was born on February 17, 1955 in Shandong (China). Winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature for «His hallucinatory realism, which combines folk tales with history and modernity.» Outside of China, he is best known as the author of the story based on which the film «Red Gaolian» was shot. Mo Yan is a pseudonym that means «shut up» in Chinese. My real name is Guan Mo.

The writer began to engage in creative work since the 80s of the last century. In 1987, his novel «Red Gaolian» won the «Best Short Story» award in the country, and later a film was made based on this work, which won the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival, after which the writer's name became known both in the country and abroad.

The main theme of the writer's continuous literary work is life in the countryside. His homeland Gaomi is a place full of romantic legends and various wonders of Chinese culture.

On November 28, 2023, the Mo Yan Museum of Literature and Art opened in Gaomi, Shandong Province, featuring the author's manuscripts and books translated into foreign languages, various awards, and items related to the writer's creative life. His works have been translated into many languages, including English, French, German, Japanese, and others.

The exhibition presents 20 volumes from the collection of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, released in the series «Collected Works of Mo Yan»: among them such as «Frog», «Sandalwood Crime», «Kingdom of Alcohol», «Red Forest», «Fat Man», as well as books translated into Kazakh «Red Gaolian», «Omir men olim аzaby» («The Pain of Life and Death»), as well as his stories, translated into Kazakh and Russian, published in newspapers and magazines (142 copies).
