On October 10-11, the annual field working meeting of the association of legal entities «Kazakhstan Library Union» (ALE KLU) was held in the Turkestan regional Universal Scientific Library «Farab» in Turkestan.

The purpose of the meeting is to unite the efforts of professionals for the modern direction of the development of librarianship in Kazakhstan, the protection of common interests, the mobilization of libraries in Kazakhstan in the interests of integration into the world community, modernization and optimization of libraries.

The event was attended by: heads of the Committee of Archives, Documentation and Book Business of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Department of Culture of the Turkestan region, «Kazakhstan IDLOGIC» LLP; directors of 18 regional and 3 republican libraries, 3 city centralized library systems of republican significance, special libraries for blind and visually impaired citizens, children's and youth libraries, library associations of higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan.

The event was moderated by Deputy Director for Library Work of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Library Union Yusupova Azhar Khamitovna.

At the plenary session, the head of the Committee on Archives, Documentation and Book Business of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan A.A. Myrzakhmet spoke on the issues of updating and replenishing the collections of libraries of the system of culture, education and science, Director of the Library and Information Center of Taraz Regional University named after A.H. Dulati, Chairman of the Association of Libraries of Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan G.J. Irzhanova and Deputy Director of the Scientific Library of the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University P.M. Lapo was informed about the preparatory work for the organization and holding of the 89th World Library and Information Congress IFLA in 2025, Commercial Director of «Kazakhstan IDLOGIC» LLP K.K. Bekeev spoke about the integration of RFID in libraries of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Director of the Central Bank of Almaty M.E. Bektembayev shared his experience on the example of libraries in Almaty about the modern direction of development of libraries of the new Director of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Kazakhstan Library Union B.K. Ospanova presented a report on the activities of the Kazakhstan Library Union for 2019-2024, KLU accountant D.B. Kazkenova – KLU financial report, KLU Executive Director A.H. Yusupova informed «On the revision and approval of the structure of the KLU executive collegial management bodies», specialist of the External Relations and image work service of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan D.T. Duisebayeva analyzed the republican professional journal «Kitap £Kitaphana. The book is a library. Book£Lidrary», gave suggestions on its content and design.

At the meeting, by voting of the members of the Kazakhstan Library Union, the structure of the executive collegial management bodies of the KLU was approved and its members were approved: Chairman of the Kazakhstan Library Union – Ospanova Bakytzhamal Kairbekovna; Deputy Chairman of the KLU, head of the modular structure of special libraries – Nurgalieva Gaziza Kudaibergenovna; executive director of the KLU – Yusupova Azhar Khamitovna; secretary of the KLU – Mahanbetova Gulmira Abylaykhanovna; accountant KLU – Kazkenova Damet Baizakovna.

Chairman of the Association of Libraries of Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan Irzhanova Gulzhan Zhenisbekovna signed an agreement on joining the Kazakhstan Library Union.

By the decision of the Kazakhstan Library Union, the director of the Centralized Library System of Almaty, Bektembayev Meiram Yerenovich, was recognized as the winner of the nomination «Librarian of the Year-2024».     

At the end of the event, a presentation of the brochure «Roadmap of sacred historical and new cultural sites of the Turkestan region» was held.
