On September 18, an international training seminar on the topic «Preservation and restoration of documents – the basis for ensuring the safety of library collections» continued at the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The third day of the seminar began with a section on the topic: «Document restoration», which is conducted by a member of the attestation commission of the Section of Archival, Library Materials and Graphic Works of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, a restorer of the highest category of the All-Russian Art Scientific Restoration Center named after Academician I.E. Grabar Mymrin Evgeniya Vladimirovna. She will introduce the seminar participants to the types of restoration papers and the principles of their selection; the formulation and adhesives used in the work; and also, techniques for fixing seals and stamps, technologies for combining and strengthening gaps, making up for losses by manual topping up and strengthening the paper base by duplication will be presented.
According to the participants of the International Seminar, the ongoing training on document restoration is a demanded and timely event in the format of the School for the Conservation and Restoration of Documents of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as the staff of libraries, archives and museums of Kazakhstan has been replenished with young specialists who want to improve their knowledge in the field of preservation and restoration of documentary cultural heritage, professional competencies and make new friends, like-minded people.
