Халел Аргынбаев

In the reading room of the Art Department, a book exhibition «Tarikhtyn tarlan bilgiri» was organized, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of one of the founders of Kazakh ethnography – archaeologist, ethnographer, Professor Khalel Argynbayevich Argynbayev.

He was born on September 21, 1924 in the village named after Dzhambul Bayanaul district of Pavlodar region. In the 1939 academic year, Khalel Argynbayevich entered the Karelian Pedagogical College, from which he graduated in 1942. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the Soviet Army and was a radio operator throughout the war. Khalel Argynbayev participated in military operations in Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and Austria.

After demobilization, he decided to continue his education and in September 1947 entered the Faculty of History of the Almaty State Pedagogical Institute named after Abai, from which he graduated with honors in 1951. According to the distribution of the Ministry of Education of the Republic, he was sent by the head teacher of the pedagogical college to Panfilov, where he also taught the subjects «History of the USSR» and «History of the Kazakh SSR». In 1954, Khalel Argynbayev entered the full-time postgraduate course of the Ethnography Department of the Ch. Ch. Valikhanov Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic on a competitive basis.

In 1959-1976, he led ethnographic expeditions on the territory of Kazakhstan. Participated in the compilation of the historical and ethnographic atlas of the peoples of Kazakhstan and Central Asia, wrote more than 200 scientific Works, among which are: «Kazakh khalkynyn koloneri»; «Culture and way of life of the Kazakh collective farm village»; «Kazakh otbasy»; «Traditional culture of life support of Kazakhs»; «Kazakh shezhiresi hakynda», etc. Khalel Argynbayev not only continued the traditions of the founder of the scientific and ethnographic school, academician A.H. Margulan, but also created his own Kazakh school of ethnography. Under his scientific supervision, about 15 doctoral and PhD theses were defended in Moscow and Almaty in the specialty «Ethnography».

The book exhibition presents books that reveal the life and creative path of X.Argynbayeva: «Kazakh khalkyndagi  otbasy men  neke», «Kazakh economy at the turn of the XIX–XX centuries.», «Kazakh khalkynn koloneri», «Traditional culture of Kazakh life support. Essays on theory and history», «Kazaktyn otbasylyk dasturleri» and others. Readers will also be interested in interviews and stories about the life of an archaeologist, ethnographer, printed on the pages of periodicals.
