On September 5, 2024, as part of the celebration of Almaty City Day, the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted a musical evening dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the composer, People's Artist of the USSR and the Kazakh SSR, Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR, laureate of the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov.

Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov is the largest Kazakh composer, one of the founders of the composer's school of the republic, a recognized classic of Kazakh music of the XX century.

The composer's creative path was productive, and covered many genres of musical art. He created operas, symphonies, oratorios, concerts, songs, romances, choirs, music for dramatic performances and films. S. Mukhamedzhanov is the author of the first national comic opera, the first Kazakh oratorio, as well as the founder of the concert genre for voice and orchestra in Kazakh music. The musical heritage of the composer is rightfully included in the golden fund of Kazakh culture of the XX century. His music captivates with its melodiousness, generosity and vivid emotionality, richness of lyrics, depth of embodiment of dramatic collisions and harsh heroics of historical events.

Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov took an active part in musical and social life. In 1960 - 1962, he was Chairman of the Board of the Union of Composers of Kazakhstan, for many years a member of the Board of the Union of Composers of the USSR and the Kazakh SSR.

He was awarded the Orders of the October Revolution, Friendship of Peoples, and the «Badge of Honor».

The purpose of the evening is to popularize the life and work of S. Mukhamedzhanov, the founder of the Kazakh symphonic music of Kazakhstan, to familiarize with his work through musical works and literature about him.

The event was opened by the Deputy Director for Library Work of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yusupova Azhar Khamitovna.

Musicologist, Candidate of Art History, laureate of the state scientific scholarship for talented scientists, associate professor of the Department of «Musicology and Composition» of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory – Aizada Zeikenovna Bultbayeva spoke with information about the work of Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov. The singer, Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, professor of the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T. Zhurgenev Zhumat Amzeevich Makhambetov shared his memories. Then a video about S.Mukhamedzhanov was shown  his life and work, with rare footage depicting an interview with the composer, and the performance of a song by singer Bibigul Tulegenova. The composer's works were performed by young soloists of the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abai: Shyngys Nurgaliuli, Abdulla Sayat, Takhaui Rakhmetov, Ayazhan Kuanshalieva, Alimusa Sunkar, Kanagatov Bolat, Tolepbergen Aruzhan, Alpysbaeva Aruzhan, Nargyz Satmukhambetova; musical director and concertmaster - Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhidilova Gulnar Shakhanovna.

The guests of the event were teachers and students of the Conservatory, the creative team of soloists of the Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abai, students of music colleges and schools, library readers.

The moderator of the evening was a theater critic, head of the Department of Theater and Cinema at the M.O. Auezov Institute of Literature and Art – Amangeldy Mukan.

As part of the musical evening, a book exhibition «Saz aleminin sanlagy» was organized, revealing the life and creative path of composer Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov.

Specialists of the National Bibliography Service of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan presented a recommendation bibliographic index of the bibliographic series «Art of Kazakhstan» «Mukhamedzhanov Sydyk (1924-1991)».
