The book exhibition «Ernest Hemingway:life, heroes, creativity» is organized in the Hall of World Literature dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of American writer Ernest Miller Hemingway.
Ernest Hemingway is an American novelist and journalist, Nobel Prize winner, one of the most popular writers of the twentieth century. Hemingway received wide recognition thanks to his novels and numerous short stories, on the one hand, and his life full of adventures and surprises, on the other. His style, concise and intense, significantly influenced the literature of the twentieth century.
Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899 in Illinois in the family of a doctor and an opera singer.
During World War I, Hemingway served as a volunteer Red Cross orderly in Italy. Hemingway was twice awarded Italian orders for military valor.
Hemingway's first books, «Three Short Stories and Ten Poems», were published in Paris in 1923 and a collection of short stories, «In Our Time», in 1924.
In 1952, «Life» magazine published a novel by Ernest Hemingway called «The Old Man and the Sea». For this work, the writer was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1953, and in 1954 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Ernest Hemingway created vivid works, including «In Our Time» (1925), «Goodbye, Weapons!» (1929), «For whom the Bell Tolls» (1940) and «The Old Man and the Sea» (1952).
The famous writer Ernest Hemingway passed away in 1961.
The writer's life inspired the creation of several cinematic works. In 1966, the film «In Love and War» by British director Richard Attenborough was released.
The «Finca Vihia» estate in the Republic of Cuba, where the writer lived and worked from 1939 to 1960, was donated to the Cuban people after his death and turned into a literary memorial museum protected by the state.
The asteroid (3656) Hemingway is named in his honor. Postal services of different countries such as the USA, Cuba, Sweden and Czechoslovakia issued stamps dedicated to Hemingway.
