The National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan has organized a historical and educational book exhibition dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression and Famine.

On May 31, 2024, the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the opening and review of the historical and educational book exhibition «National Tragedy: Causes and Consequences», dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression and Famine.

The purpose of the exhibition is to honor the memory of victims of political repression. Presentation of scientific information about the Kazakh intelligentsia, the works and ways of life of the citizens of the nation. To convey to the reading public and the younger generation the historical truth of 1927-1953, to introduce them in depth. Paying tribute to the victims of mass political exile, learning from our past history.

Before the event, the staff of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of political repression and famine.

The book exhibition was opened and reviewed by the winner of the «Daryn» Youth Prize, Alash scholar Eldos Toktarbai.

The exhibition presents rare and unique publications from the collection of rare books and manuscripts of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, lifetime works of national figures and Kazakh intellectuals, manuscripts and research papers on victims of political repression and famine.

The exhibition consists of three parts:

  1. Alashordins and political repression;
  2. Tragic pages of history;
  3. Under the flag of «Alash».

A brief overview of the exhibition:

  1. Originals of works and manuscripts of the leaders of the Alash movement, late XIX - early XX centuries;
  2. Memoirs of descendants of victims of political repression;
  3. Scientific works of legal scholars, historians (M. Koigeldy, T.Omarbekova, K. Nurpeisova, B. Koishybaev, E. Tlesheva, H. Tursyn, S. Zhusupov, D. Kamzabekuly, S. Zhumagula, K. Kemenger and OF Qyr balasy, etc.);
  4. Historical works on the topic of repression and famine.
