There in the hall of world literature is organized the book exhibition “Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev – the politician, scientist, diplomat acknowledged by the world”, dedicated to the 70-th birthday of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.-Zh. Tokayev.

Kasym-Zhomart Kemelevich Tokayev is the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the Council of security of the RK, the well-known diplomat, the state and political figure, doctor of science (politics). He was born on May 17, 1953 in Almaty city.

Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev studied at the school-gymnasium №25 after I. Esenberlin in Almaty city. In 1975 he graduated from the Moscow state institute of international relations (the MGIMO), in 1984 – the Beijing university of language and culture, in 1992 –the Diplomatic academy of the Ministry of foreign affairs of the RF, in 2000 he defended the doctoral dissertation.

The diplomatic career of K.-Zh. Tokayev began in 1975 at the Ministry of foreign affairs of the USSR, was sent to work to the Soviet embassy in the Republic of Singapore. In 1984-1985 he worked at the Ministry of foreign affairs of the USSR, after that he was sent to Beijing, where he worked till 1991 at the post of the Councillor. In 1992 he was appointed Deputy, after that the Minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In October, 1999 he was appointed the Prime-Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan. From 2003 till 2007 he worked as the Minister of foreign affairs of the RK. At this post he actively participated in the global process of non-proliferation of nuclear weaponry. In 2007 he was elected Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the RK, and in 2008 as the speaker of the upper chamber of the Kazakhstani Parliament, the Vice-President of the Parliamentary assembly of the OSCE.

Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev in 2011 was appointed Deputy General secretary of the UNO, General director of the UNO department in Geneva, occupying the post of the General secretary at the Conference for disarmament. He was chosen the Chairman of the Council of ministers of foreign affairs of the CIS, of the Shanghai organization of cooperation, the Eurasian Economic Community. He has the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. The honorary professor of the universities of different countries, including the Diplomatic academy of the Ministry of foreign affairs of the RF and the Shenzheng university of the PRC, the honorary dean of the Geneva school of diplomacy and international relations. He speaks fluently in 5 languages: Kazakh, Russian, English, Chinese and French.

Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev is awarded with many state awards of the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign countries, and also with orders: “Parasat” (1996), “Druzhba” (2004), “The commonwealth” (2007), “Otan” (2014), “The Order of Honour” (2017), “Altyn Kyran of special degree as the President of Kazakhstan” (2019), “Duslyk” (2022) and others.

He is the author of the books and articles on the issues of international relations, including: “How it was: the chronicles of disturbances in Beijing (04.1989-06.1989)” (1993), “The United Nations Organization: 50 years of serving peace” (1995), “Under the flag of independence” (1997), “The foreign policy of Kazakhstan in the conditions of globalization” (2000), “The diplomacy of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2001), “The word about father” (2005), “He makes the history” (2010) and others.               

The purpose of the exhibition – to show the outstanding role of the President of the RK K.-Zh. Tokayev in the history of establishment and development of the Kazakhstani statehood and international diplomacy.

There at the book exhibition out of the fond of National library of the RK are presented the materials and books of Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, the historical-publicistic articles and essays published in Kazakhstan and abroad, which disclose the different aspects of his activity in the sphere of world diplomacy and politics in different languages of the world.
