On August 19 there in the Great Hall of National library of the RK took place the premier of the documentary film “The honour of the cinema chronicler”.

 

Sagatbek Makhmut (Makhmutov) was born on August 13, 1946 in the Zhalagashskiy district of the Kzyl-Ordinskaya region. In 1966 he came to the cinema studio “Kazakhfilm” as the operator assistant. In 1972 he enters the faculty of operator art of the VGIK in Moscow city. Beginning from 1976 after finishing the operator faculty, he qualifies as the operator of highest category. He works as the operator till 1984. In 1984 he shoots his first documentary film “Kabul meets the friends” as the director  and from that time he works as the director-operator.

During more than 40 years of his work at the cinema studio “Kazakhfilm” Sagatbek Makhmut shot as the operator and director more than 50 documentary films and many plots of the cinema of periodicals: “Soviet Kazakhstan”, “Kamcha”, “Sport”, “Culture” and others.

Beginning from the 2000-s he worked at the Academy of arts after T. Zhurgenov, and later also at “Turan” university as the master in the operator art. During the years of his pedagogical activity he released many students, among which there are the well-known operators of Kazakhstan. He is the author of the terminological dictionary of cinema technics.

There in the basis of the film lies the creative life and activity of the cinema director-operator Sagatbek Makhmut, his formation as the figure of cinema art.The spectator will become acquainted with the epoch of the documentary cinema of the Soviet and independent Kazakhstan, in the realities of which took place the creative way of Sagatbek Makhmut. The film will disclose how the documentalist in his pictures had to defend his personal convictions and the civil position in the conditions of Soviet censorship.  

The demonstration is timed for the first year of the untimely death of the cinema director-operator Sagatbek Makhmut.
