There in the reading hall after Oraz Zhandosov of the Service “Kazakstan kitaptary” is organized the book exhibition “Zobalan zhyldary zhangyrygy”, dedicated to the Day of memory of the victims of the political repressions in Kazakhstan.

Annually on May 31 there in Kazakhstan is marked the Day of memory of the victims of the political repressions, one of the most tragic pages in the history of Kazakhstan – the mass political repressions and the horrible famine which led to the perdition of the millions of the people.

The mass political repressions is one of the most lugubrious pages in the history of Kazakhstan. The Soviet power practically turned the country into one big prison. There on the territory of Kazakhstan were situated the largest camps of the structure GULAG –

ALZHIR, STEPLAG, KARLAG. The wave of the political repressions destroyed many representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia. One of the most tragic phenomena in the multi-century history of the Kazakh people is “Uly zhut” – “The Greta famine” of the 1930-ss. Kazakhstan became the giant polygon for the carrying out of the unprecedented social experiment, which led to the perdition of the huge amount of people. There in the 1930-ss – 40ss took place also the mass deportations of the whole peoples to Kazakhstan. Their number is estimated to be 1 mln. 200 thousand people.

There during the Day of memory of the victims of the political repressions in Kazakhstan are held the activities dedicated to the people who died and suffered in the political repressions: the laying of flowers at the monuments of the repressed, the photo and book exhibitions in the libraries, the demonstration of the documentary films in the cinemas, the carrying out of “the lessons of memory” in the study establishments etc.

The book exhibition “Zobalan zhyldary zhangyrygy”, reflects the tragical events and data about the innocent victims of the totalitarian system of that period. The documentary materials taken from the fond of National library of the RK, give one the possibility to understand the cruel, senseless character of the political repressions of those years.   

The purpose of the exhibition is to acquaint the readers with the history of the most tragical periods of our state in the 1920-1950-ss and the formation of the patriotic feelings of the youth, the veneration of memory of the victims of the repressions and the respect to the historical past of the Kazakh people.
