993545There in the reading hall of the Arts’ department is organized the book exhibition “Cinema directorynyn Mazhit Begalinnyn 100 zhyl”, dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the honored figure of arts ofg the Kazakh SSR, participant of the Great Patriotic war Mazhit Begalin.

Begalin Mazhit Sapargaliyevich was born on February 22, 1922 in the village of Degeres of the Abralinskiy district of the Semipalatinskaya region in the family of the outstanding Kazakh writer, one of the founders of the Kazaklh Soviet children’s literature – Sapargali Begalin. When Mazhit was eight years old, the whole family moved to Almaty. Mazhit was summoned to the army at once after the last school ring. After passing through the courses of the junior commanders of the cavalry artillery, in September, 1941 he found himself at the front.

Mazhit Begalin served in the legendary 100-th separate Kazakh shooting brigade. In one of the battles at the Kaliniskiy front the wrist of the hand was torn away. In the spring of 1943 Mazhit was demobilized. That same year he entered the VGIK, which was evacuated to Alma-Ata, to the master-shop of S.A. Gerasimov and T.F. Makarova. After finishing the studies he worked at the cinema studio “Mosfilm”, was second director in the films “Molodaya gvardiya” which was shot by his pedagogue Sergei Gerasimov and in “The fall of Berlin” of Mikhail Chiaureli.

Returning to Kazakhstan, from 1949 he worked as the artistic leader and director at the cinema studio “Kazakhfilm”. He is the author of the fiction films about his contemporaries, the Kazakh hard workers at the end of the XX-th century: “It was at the dawn” of 1955, “The return to the land” of 1959, “The traces of the tulpar” of 1964.

The director’s mastery of Mazhit Begalin was manifested in the films of the historical-biographical genre. His films “This was in Shugla”, “His time will come”, “The traces go beyond the horizon”, “The song about Manshuk”, “Behind us is Moscow”, “The steppe peals” played the huge role in the cause of establishment of Kazakh cinematography and the development of national culture on the whole.

In the last film of M. Begalin “The steppe peals” shot the cinema studio “Kazakhfilm” in 1974 there played his wife Lyudmila (Olesya) Ivanova, and one of the main roles was played by their son Nurtai. But the film didn’t come out on to the screens. It was “put upon the shelf” for the wrong highlighting of the history of the Civil war in Kazakhstan”. The film was shown at the “Kazakhstan” tele-channel only in 2002 on the occasion of the 80-th birthday of the director.

For the creative activity Mazhit Sapargaliyevich Begalin was given the title “The honored figure of arts of the Kazakh SSR” in 1966. He was awarded with the orders of the Labour Red Banner and with “The Badge of Honour”, with the silver medal after A.P. Dovzhenko in 1972 “for the works in the heroic-patriotic theme”.

There about the life and creative activity of director M.S. Begalin were shot the documentary films: in 1981 “Mazhit Begalin” by director A.T. Ashrapov and “When the soul cannot keep silent” in 2012 by director B. Nusimbekov. 

M.S. Begalin died on May 5, 1978 in the city of Moscow. He was buried in Almaty city. There at the book exhibition are presented the materials about the life and creative activity of the great master, who through his light, life-asserting films left the bright trace in domestic cinematography and whose art continues to serve the people of Kazakhstan: “Mazhit Begalin: Book-album”, K. Siranov “Cinema art of Soviet Kazakhstan”, “Cinema of Kazakhstan. Who is Who”, D. Ashimbayev “Who is who in Kazakhstan: the Bibliographical encyclopaedia”,

B.Nogerbek “The Kazakh play cinema: the folklore traditions and the image of the hero: the Monograph”, “The art of Almaty in personalities”, “Shaken Aimanov. The photo-album”, Nogerbekov “The cinema of Kazakhstan”, B. Nasenov “Abyraly - Sunkarlary” and others. Also there for the readers will be of interest the articles, interviews and stories, described on the pages of the periodical editions.
