There in the reading room of periodical editions is organized the exhibition, dedicated to the centenary of the republican youth’s, public-political newspaper “Zhas Alash”.

 

The republican youth’s newspaper “Zhas Alash” began its history on March 22, 1921 in Tashkent city. The newspaper was founded by one of the leaders of the Komsomol organization of the Turkestani ASSR Gani Muratbayev, the executive editor was Iliyas Zhansugurov. The newspaper was published in different years under different titles: “Zhas kairat”, “Orten”, “Leninshil zhas”. In 1922 the newspaper started to be published in Orenburg city under the title “Orten”, in 1927 the newspaper was published under the title “Leninshil zhas” (The Lenin’s youth), which from 1929 continued to be published in Alma-Ata city. In 1941 the editions of the newspaper were stopped in connection with the mass departure of the workers for the front, and the publication was renewed beginning from September, 1945.

In 1991 with the gaining of independence by Kazakhstan the newspaper was renamed into “Zhas Alash” which when translated means “The youth of Kazakhstan”.

The newspaper from the very beginning of its publication rendered the invaluable role in the upbringing of the Kazakh youth as the patriots of their country. With the development of the newspaper there grew the whole pleiad of well-known journalists and writers of the republic. The names of the editors, the well-known Kazakhstani personalities changed one after another. There in the editor’s office of the newspaper “Leninshil Zhas” worked Sherkhan Murtaza, Seidakhmet Berdibekov and many others.

Today “Zhas Alash” is one of the most popular, democratic, public-political editions in the Kazakh language. The newspaper highlights the important historical events happening in the republic and in the world. Besides the everyday news, “Zhas Alash” regularly published the articles by the themes of politics, economics, literature and culture, industry and ecology, law, finances and management, marketing, education and healthcare, art and other themes.

There are the appendices “Student”, “Rhythm”, “One thousand and one moment”, “Family”. There on the pages of the newspaper were published the letters of the readers from the whole country, and under the rubrics “Open history”, “Bilateral talk” there were given the interviews with the figures and experts in different spheres.

The newspaper “Zhas Alash” is still needed and is widespread in the republic and it is published two times a week. The circulation as for today is more than 13 000 copies.

The newspaper is awarded with the order of the USSR “Badge of Honour” (1973), it is acknowledged to be the best newspaper of the year 2000 and it possesses the prize “Altyn zhuldyz”.

There at the exhibition are presented the jubilee numbers of the newspaper, the articles of well-known writers and journalists on the pages of the periodical editions about the formation   and the ways of development of journalistics of Kazakhstan and there are also given the articles about the National library of the RK on the pages of the newspaper “Zhas Alash”.
