There in the Fond of rare books and manuscripts are the monuments of written heritage in the Kazakh, Oriental, Russian and European languages. The Fond numbers more than 40 thousand documents, from among them there are more than 1000 manuscripts (in the Kazakh, Russian and Oriental languages), the collection of Kazakh books, the works about Kazakhstan, the first periodical editions of Kazakhstan, the Oriental printed books, the Russian books, the old print books of Europe, the microfilms, the electronic copies of the books.

From among the manuscripts kept in the fond, of most value are “The Koran” in Kufic script (the XII-th c.), “Shakhname” by Firdousi in the Chagatai language (1721-1723), the written heritage of A.Kh.Yassaui and S.Bakyrgani, included into the International register of “The Memory of the world” UNESCO Programme.

From among the rare print books there are the works of the classics of Kazakh literature, the live editions of the Kazakh enlighteners. The collection of books of the peoples of the Orient numbers more than 2 thousand books.

There in the fond are kept the first periodical editions – the newspapers of Kazakhstan “Turkestanskiye oblastnye vedomosti” of 1879-1917, ”Kazak” of 1913-1918, “Enbekshi Kazak” of 1923-1932 and others, the magazines “Aikap” of 1911-1917, “Abai of 1918, “Sholpan” of 1922 and others.
