There in the reading Hall of periodical editions is organized the exhibition of newspapers and magazines named “Kazak poeziyasynyn Khantaniry”, dedicated to the 90-th anniversary of the Kazakh writer, poet and translator, winner of the State prize of Kazakhstan Mukagali Makatayev.

Mukagali Makatayev was born on February 9, 1931 in the village Karasaz of the Almatinskaya region, at the foot of the summit Khan-Tengri. The creative activity way of the 17-year old poet begins in 1949 from the verses “Kyrmanga”, “Koishy bala-Akitai” published in the newspaper “Sovetskaya granitsa”, which is presented at the exhibition of periodical editions. Mainly the works of M. Makatayev were published in the newspapers and magazines. In 1951 there saw the light “The songs of youth” (“Zhastar zhyry”) in which there were published the verses of the poet.

In 1962 the newspaper “Socialistik Kazakstan” published the poem “Appassionata”, which brought to M. Makatayev popularity, and his name entered the names of the best Kazak poets.

Makatayev lived a short life but a bright creative life. For more than thirty years he spent in his native Karasaz. His friends and contemporaries valued his optimism, love of life, the constant search. The song for his verse “Sarzhailau” became the folk one.

Mukagali Makatayev is a bright page of the Kazakh poetry of the 60-s-70s of the XX-th century. The poet burst into literature like the fire lightning, dazzling everybody. Once Rabindranat Tagore said: “The nation must make the general heritage out of everything that it got”. These words can fully be used for the creative activity of the poet.

Besides there in the creative activity of M. Makatayev a special place is occupied by the translations. The poet during his short life managed to translate into the native language: the sonnets by W. Shakespeare; “The leaves of grass” by Witman; “The Divine Comedy” by Dante. M. Makatayev translated with talent the Russian classics. Thanks to his talent there organically spoke in the Kazakh language: Alexander Blok, Nikolai Nekrasov,

Alexander Pushkin. He made a great contribution into the national culture and art of Kazakhstan. His talent was acknowledged only after his death, but the verses of Makatayev became the loved ones and truly people’s.

The main theme in the creative activity of the poet is the native land, Motherland, the history of the Kazakh people, the image of Mother, love for life, tenderness towards the surrounding world, kindness, love for woman.

The poet lived a short life, leaving behind himself the bright poetical trace. M. Makatayev died in 1976 in Almaty city where he was buried. In 1981 after his name was named the street, there was established the memorial plaque upon the building where he lived; in 2002 there was established for him the bronze monument in the square at the corner of the streets of Makatayev and Zheltoksan in Almaty city. After his name were named the schools, squares, parks in all the republic.

In 1985 there by the Writers’ Union of Kazakhstan was established the Literary prize after Makatayev.

In 2000 there to Mukagali Makatayev for the collection of verses “Amanat” by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstanm was p[osthumously given the State prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the sphere of literature, art and architecture.

There at the exhibition are presented the periodical editions “Soltustik shekara”, the magazines “Parasat”, “Zhuldyz”, “Ulagat”, “Urker ”, “Anyz adam”, “Mukagali”, “Tan-Sholpan”, “Kasym”, “Akikat” and other materials from the fond of National library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, published from 1948 up to the present time. The exhibition consists of three divisions:

“En birinshi bakytym – khalkym menyn”, “Men omirdy zhyrlau yushin kelgenmyn”, “Zharyk duniye-ai! Zharygyn netken zhaksy edi”.
