On November 26  there by the Service of world literature was presented the virtual book exhibition “The great master of fairy-tales from Italy Jovanni Rodari” dedicated to the centenary of the well-known Italian children’s poet, writer, journalist and creator of fairy-tales.

Jovanni Francesco Rodari was born on October 23, 1920 in the little place of Omenya situated at the north of Italy in the family of the baker and the maid.

The little Janny liked to draw very much and he dreamed to become an artist. He also wanted to become a musician and he even took several lessons for playing the violin. But even more he liked the books. Janny was growing as a talented and kind boy. He was an incredulous dreamer, he constantly dreamed and believed in the best things. Maybe this made the writer out of him – the best friend of children in the whole of the world. Janny studied at the spiritual seminary in Milan. After he graduated from it, he worked as a teacher in the local rural schools.  In 1939 the young adolescent became a student of the philological faculty of the Catholic university in Milan but the war interrupted his plans. He wanted to go to the front but he was not taken due to his weak health.

In 1948 he became the reporter in “L’Unita” newspaper. It was here on the pages of the periodical press that there appeared the first publications of Rodari for children. Soon Janny Rodari understands that the creative activity attracts him more than the editor’s work and he agreed to the proposal of the friends to move to Rome and head the children’s magazine “Pioner”.

The works of Janny Rodari are known to the children of the whole planet. The fairy-tale personages, so bright and easily remembered won the love not only of the children but the adults because the writer in his fairy-tales managed to reflect all the problems of real life, including the social inequalities of society.

The fairy-tale of Janny Rodary about the adventures of Chipollino saw the light in 1951 and at once won the general acknowledgment. There in the fairy-tale “The adventures of Chipollino” the heroes fighting against the oppressors are depicted by the writer as the fruits and vegetables.

They look very much as people, there in the book are brightly depicted the characters of each personage and one can see the link between the human world and the life of the personages of this fairy-tale.

The main hero Chipollino is the boy-onion, very kind, joyful and mischievous. Chipolliono is the protector of the weak and poor. He fights against evil and injustice, against oppressors of the people and together with his friends he wins his enemies. The hero who never cries and very decisive, courageous and honest he is capable to commit a feat. He values love and friendship. He ios adored by all children.

The Russian version of “The adventures of Chipollino” edited by Samuil Marshak saw the light in 1953. This work received especial wide popularity in the USSR where in 1961 there was made the cartoon “The blue arrow” and after that the film-fairy-tale “Chipollino” by Tamara Lisician in 1973 in which Janny Rodary was shot as himself. Also the wonderful history from the masters of cinema – the film “The magical voice of Jelsomino” (1977, director Tamara Lisician).
