The inspiration for the idea of the Russian-Kazakhstani project “Meetings at the boundaries” which is 5 years old, came from the National library of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of culture of the Russion Federation, the Russian state library and the Russian committee of the “Information for all” UNESCO Programme.

    There is created within its framework the electronic library on the history of relations between Russia and Kazakhstan accessible in the Internet. The project accrues through new participants and passes from the bilateral format into the multilateral project named “Caravan-sarai on the Great Silk way”. Its conception is the widening of cooperation within the framework of the library belt “Europa-Asia”, the linking thread of which is the information highway “Moscow-Almaty-Delhi”.

     The seminar-council “Kazakhstan-Russia: the dialogue of cultures” in Almaty will become the first one on the way of implementation of the project  “Caravan-sarai on the Great Silk way”. There in it participate representatives of India, Russia, the Republic of Altai of the Russian Federation (Kosh-Agach city). The directors of the National libraries of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan will discuss the idea and form of cooperation.

    The programme of the seminar-council includes: the presentations of electronic libraries, corporate sites, plans of cooperation of the libraries-members of ‘the Library Assembly of Eurasia, the master-classes by the specialists of the developing network of libraries of India (the Delnet), the department for support of the automated library systems of the Russian state library etc.

    The seminar-council is held on December 22-23 in accordance with the programme of  cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation in the humanitarian sphere for 2006. Thanks to the activity there was created the collection of selected materials named “Abai – Pushkin” on CD-ROM, there is elaborated the typical site for the elctronic library “Meetings at the boundaries”.

    There for the seminar was prepared the book-illustrative exhibition named “The spirit of Oikumena” which embraces the stages of development of the Russian-Kazakhstani project “Meetings at the boundaries”, representing the cultural-spiritual space expressed in continuity  links of the prominent phenomena of culture such as Abai and Pushkin, Navoi and Firdousi, “Mahabharata”, “Manas” etc.
