In the O. Zhandosov reading room of the Kazakhstan Kitaptary Service, a book exhibition «Satyranyn sayypkyrany» was organized, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the poet, translator, satirist Shona Smakhanuly.

Shona Smakhanuly was born on October 5 in the village of Oyyk, Talas district of Zhambyl region. A participant in the Second World War. After the war, he worked as a teacher in a rural school for several years.

In 1956, he graduated in absentia from the Philological faculty of the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute named after Abai. After graduation, he worked as an editor at Uvzuchpedgiz. In 1957, he was an editor at the publishing house «Mektep». From 1958 to 1963, he headed the department in the editorial office of the newspaper «Kazakhstan Mugalimi». From 1964 to 1968 he worked as a feuilletonist for the satirical magazine «Ara» (Bumblebee). In 1973-1983– he was an editor, and then head of the editorial office at the «Zhazushi» publishing house.

He began to engage in literary work in 1950. He is the author of many collections of satirical poetry. He wrote translations of the texts of the operettas «Rinaldo goes into battle» by Modugno, «Mademoiselle Nitouche» by Herve. A number of his works have been translated into Russian.

He was awarded a Diploma of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR and medals. Gymnasium № 62 was named in honor of the writer in Almaty.

The purpose of the exhibition is to get acquainted with the creative activities and works of the outstanding Kazakh satirist Shona Smakhanuly, who contributed to the flourishing of Kazakh literature.

The book exhibition consists of three sections. The first section of the exhibition «Shona – satirа zhanyryn  maytalmany» reflects materials about the life and work of Shona Smakhanuly: encyclopedias, bibliographic reference books and literature about him.

In the second section, «Tilim dep otti omiri» introduces readers to his works: «Ku tulkinin sybagasy» (1961); «Vitriol» (1968); «Ur, tokpagym, ur!» (1970); «Sandyktan shykkan saitan» (1977); «Moldeken tek tamsandy...» (1982); «Zhasyrayyk nesine» (1983); «Umit zhuldyzy» (1984); «Otkirdin  zhuzi» (1985); «Shymshyma» (1992)  etc.

The third section «Ulttyk murat tugyry» contains articles by famous writers of Kazakhstan about Shona Smakhanuly: «Akikat ainasy» (2008); «Pa, shirkin, parody!..» (2009); «Syrymdy aitayynshy» (2010).  «Tauelsizdik tynysym» (2011); «Kalai bolsa – solai» (2011); «Zhuldyzdar otbasy» (2012); «Kormein desem koz bar» (2014); «Kulki kulki» (2019); «Asyl agalar» (2020)  etc.
