From May 13 to 24, 2024, librarians of the Electronic Library Resources Service of the Centralized Library System of Almaty city were trained at the School of Conservation and restoration of written documents of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In addition to theoretical knowledge on the basic principles of long-term storage and restoration of documents in the scientific storage laboratory, librarians of the library system also acquired practical skills in studying the physico-chemical properties of paper and the types and causes of damage to documents.
Specialists of the conservation, restoration and binding service taught practical skills in various methods of repair, restoration and binding of books and periodicals, as well as the principles of restoration of classic book pages: preparation of glue, assessment of the state of the document, selection of restoration materials, processing of the book block, creation of new binding covers, etc.
In the course of practical work, librarians got acquainted with the restoration materials and equipment, and also made restoration work on the pages of the book themselves.
Librarians of the centralized library system expressed gratitude to The Specialists of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan for their knowledge and qualifications in the field of preserving documentary heritage. At the end of the course, certificates of advanced training were awarded.
