The exhibition «Balalar adebiyetinin bayteregi», dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the children's writer, poet and screenwriter Berdibek Sokpakbayev, was organized in the hall of periodicals.

Berdibek Sokpakbayev was born in the village of Kostobe, Narynkol district, Almaty region.In 1949 he graduated from the philological faculty of the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute named after Abai. For several years he worked as a teacher in a rural school.

B.Sokpakbayev was involved in journalism a lot, worked in the editorial offices of newspapers and magazines «Kazak adebieti», «Baldyrgan».He was an editor at the Kazakhfilm film studio. He was always concerned about the issues of pedagogy and child education. Much of Berdibek Sokpakbayev's works are taken from the author's life.

Berdibek Sokpakbayev began his writing career with a collection of poems «Bulak» («Rill»). It was published in 1950 and immediately found its readers. The writer's next books – the novel «Champion» was released in 1951, «In a distant village» in 1953. The story «Journey to Childhood» (1960) reflects the spiritual world of youth. The book «Steppe Star» (1960) is dedicated to the life of the Kazakh democratic scientist Chokan Valikhanov. The novel «The Dead do not return» (vol. 1-1967, vol.2-1974), the novel «Ayazhan» (1963), «Where are you, Gauhar?» (1966), etc. were published.

Since 1952, B.Sokpakbayev became a member of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan. The most famous story for Berdibek Sokpakbayev was «Menin atym Kozha» («My name is Kozha»). It was published by the publishing house «Children's Literature», and then it was translated from Russian into 68 languages of the world and published abroad. The film of the same name, based on the author's script, was awarded the prize at the Cannes International Film Festival.

The 100th anniversary of the famous Kazakhstani children's writer Berdibek Sokpakbayev was included in the UNESCO Calendar of Memorable Dates. O n the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the writer began in Kazakhstan. A monument will be erected in the native village of Berdibek Sokpakbayev-Narynkol. In addition, the name of the writer will be given to a park, an educational institution and a regional library.

The exhibition from the fund of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan presents the author's materials, articles by public figures and memoirs of colleagues and friends published on the pages of periodicals in different years.
