On March 6, 2019, the World Literature Hall organized a book exhibition devoted to the 90th anniversary of the Russian prose writer, journalist, poet and screenwriter, public figure - Iskander Fazil Abdulovich.

He was born on March 6, 1929 in Sukhumi. He graduated from a Russian school in Abkhazia with a gold medal. He entered the Moscow Library Institute, now the Moscow University of Culture and Arts (MGUKI).

After three years of study, he transferred to the Gorky Literature Institute, from which he graduated in 1954.  After three years of study he transferred to the Literature Institute named after M. Gorky, from which he graduated in 1954. Already in his student years he began to publish (first publications in 1952). He wrote poetry. He worked as a journalist in Kursk, then in Bryansk. In 1959, he worked as an editor in the Abkhazian department of the State Publishing House. His first poetry collections - "Mountain Trails" (1957), "Kindness of the Earth" (1959), "Green Rain" (1960) and others received recognition from readers. The publication of the novel "Constellation of Kozlotura" (1966) brought him wide popularity. Of particular interest to his work was the novel-epic "Sandro of Chegem" (1973), the narrative-parable "Rabbits and boas", the story "Sofichka", the short story "The Thirteenth feat of Hercules. Among the favorite themes of philosophical reflections in the works of Iskander - the concepts of justice, honor, dignity, asceticism, love of the earth, respect for death and the dead.

The publishing house "Art Literature" published a collection of "Olzhas and I", which includes statements and reflections of famous prose writers and poets from different countries, including Iskander Fazil Abdulovich about the work and personality of O. Suleimenov.

As a public figure and spiritual authority in society, Iskander repeatedly spoke out in defense of small peoples and signed many letters in defense of exiled and repressed writers.  Fazil Iskander was an elder and the most respected figure in the Moscow Abkhaz diaspora.

Fazil Abdulovich Iskander died of acute heart failure on July 31, 2016 at his dacha in Peredelkino, near Moscow, at the age of 88. The asteroid (5615) Iskander, discovered on August 4, 1983, is named after F.A. Iskander. In 2009 the Bank of Abkhazia issued a commemorative silver coin from the series "Prominent persons of Abkhazia", denominated 10 apsar, dedicated to Fazil Iskander. In 2018, in the year of literature, an international prize named after F. Iskander was established in three nominations: prose, poetry and screenplay.

The book exhibition from the collection of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan presents his books and materials devoted to the life and work of Fazil Iskander.
