There in the reading hall of the Arts department is organized the book exhibition named “The cinema director, actor Azerbaizhan Mambetov’s 90-th birthday”, dedicated to the 90-th birthday of the Kazakh director of theatre and cinema, pedagogue, the people’s artiste of the USSR Azerbaizhan Mambetov.

The purpose of the exhibition is the acquaintance of the readers with the life of the director  Azerbaizhan Mambetov and his creative activity. The popularization of the works and research literature about him.

Azerbaizhan Madiyevich Mambetov was born on September 1, 1932 in the village of Savinka (now the Pallasovskiy district of the Volgogradskaya region of Russia). During the years of the war the family moved to Alma-Ata city. In 1952 he graduated from the actors’ faculty of the Alma-Atinskiy theatrical-artistic special school after N. Gogol and also at the same time the dancing department of the Almatinskiy choreographical special school. During the studying period he was the soloist of the Ensemble of singing and dancing of the Kazakh SSR. In 1957 he graduated from the directors’ faculty of the GITIS in Moscow (the pupil of N.M. Gorchakov and A.A. Goncharov).

Already being still a student he was shot in the films, staged the plays upon the scenes of the Atyrauskiy and Zhambylskiy regional theatres of drama: “The personal matter” of A.P. Stein, “The servant of two masters” of K. Goldoni.

After the graduation from the institute he is the director of the Kazakh academic theatre of drama after M. Auezov in Alma-Ata city, from 1965 he is its main director (from 1970 - Director). 

In connection with the confrontation which came about between the director and the collective at the end of the 1970-s he made the decision to leave for the while from the theatre and go to the cinema. He took his probation at the cinema studio “Mosfilm”. From 1978 he is director of the cinema studio “Kazakhfilm”. In 1980 he again returned to the Kazakh theatre of drama after M.Auezov, where till 1995 he was the artistic leader. During the years of work at the theatre he implemented more than two hundred stagings. From April 1, 1995 he changed the work, going to the Union of theatrical worker5s of Kazakhstan. From 1999 he worked in Astana city as the artistic head of the Kazakh state musical-drama theatre after K. Kuanyshbayev. He staged the plays in other theatres and cities (Prague, Moscow, Tashkent, and also in the Korean, Uigur theatres in Almaty city). 

In 1973 there at the International theatre festival of the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America in Shiraz (Iran) was shown his play “The mother’s field” of Ch. Aitmatov, and in 1984 there at the International festival “The Theatre of Nations” in Nancy (France) participated his play “Kozy Korpesh – Bayan Sulu” by the work of G. Musrepov. Beginning from 1970 was engaged in teacher’s activity at the Almatinskiy theatre- artistic institute (now the Kazakh national academy of arts after T.K. Zhurgenov). Professor (1979).

Member of the Union of sinematographists of the Kazakh SSR. From 1981 – chairman of the Kazakh theatrical society (The Union of theatrical figures of Kazakhstan).

Member of the CPSU from 1961. Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR of the 9-th convocation. In 1989 was chosen the people’s deputy of the USSR. Three times was elected deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Awards and titles:

The medal “For labour excellence” (1959), the Honored figure of arts of the Kazakh SSR (1961), the People’s artiste of the Kazakh SSR (1970), the People’s artiste of the Karakalpakskaya ASSR (1972), the People’s artiste of the USSR (1976), the State prize of the USSR (1974) – for staging the play “Blood and sweat” by the novel of A.K. Nurpeyisov, the State prize of the Kazakh SSR after K. Baiseyitova (1965) – for the play “The mother’s field” by the novel of Ch. Aitmatov, the Order of Labour Red Banner, the Order of Friendship of people’s, the People’s hero of Kazakhstan (2000), the Order of Otan (2000). He died on November 18, 2009 in Astana city. Buried at the Kensai cemetery in Almaty city.

There at the book exhibition is presented the photo-album “Azirbaizhan Mambetov”; the monograph of Kumis Moltobarova “The director Mambetov phenomenon”; the books of Ashirbek Sygai “Akter alemi” and “Tangazhaiyp teatr”, the book of Sabit Orazbai “Omirdyn ozi - teatr”. The attention is ttarcted also by the edition dedicated to the research of the creative biography of A. Mambetov “Director Mambetov” published in the publishing house “Oner” in 1989. The author – I. Shostak. The information about A. Mambetov is also presented in the multiple encyclopaedias dedicated to the art of Kazakhstan.
