There in the hall of scientific workers after U.M. Sultangazin is organized the book exhibition “Kazak adebietinyn syndarly synshysy” dedicated to the 95-th birthday of the outstanding scientist, critic, literary expert, doctor of science (philology) Serik Smailovich Kirabayev.

Kirabayev Serik Smailovich was born on March 23, 1927 in the village of Atasu of the Zhanaarkinskiy district of the Karagandinskaya region. In 1951 he graduated from the philological faculty of the Kazakh pedagogical institute after Abai. After he graduated from the institute in 1951, he studied at the post-graduate course, he worked as the senior editor of the Kazakh state publishing house of fiction, head of department of the magazine “Adebiyet zhane iskusstvo”.

In 1952-1955 he is the editor of the magazine “Pioner”, in 1955-1958 he was the head, member of the editorial board of the newspaper “Socialistic Kazakhstan”. From 1958 there at the Kazakh pedagogical institute after Abai in the course of 30 years he worked as the dean of the philological faculty, head of the chair of Kazakh literature, deputy rector of the Institute in charge of the study activity. In 1988-1995 he was director, after that the head of department of the Institute of literature and art after M.O. Auezov of the AS of the Kazakh SSR. Doctor of science (philology) (1964), professor (1966), corresponding member of the Academy of pedagogical sciences of the USSR (1968), academician of the NAS of the RK (1994), honored figure of science of Kazakhst6an and Kyrgyzstan (1977, 1995), winner of the State prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1996).

Kirabayev is the author of approximately 700 scientific and literary-critical works, among them 40 monographs, 20 textbooks and study manuals. There were published more than 800 literary-critical scientific articles. His articles and reviews of the topical problems of Kazakh literature started being published from 1948. The works of the author became the reference book for many researchers.

The book exhibition “Kazak adebietinyn syndarly synshysy” reflects the materials, dedicated to the life activity of S. Kirabayev: the encyclopaedias, the biographical reference books and literature about him. There are presented the materials about his scientific activity: “Saken Seifullin” (1962), “The revolution and literature. The monograph in 2 volumes” (1977), “The high destination. Scientific articles, critical reviews” (1985), “Zhusupbek Aimautov” (1993), “The white spots in Kazakh literature” (1995), “The Kazakh literature. The second half of the 19-th century and the beginning of the 20-th century” and others.

The purpose of the book exhibition is the acquaintance with the life and creative activity of S. Kirabayev, and also the attraction of the attention of the readers to the well-known personality who made the considerable contribution into the development of Kazakh literature and the national pedagogics.
