There in the Hall of world literature is organized the book exhibition “Kazakhstan and the United Nations’ Organization: 30 years of cooperation” (1992-2022).

The United Nations Organization is the international organization created by the initiative of the USSR, the USA, China and Great Britain after the Second world war for the maintenance and strengthening of international peace and security. The head-quarters of the UNO is situated in New-York (the USA). At the present moment the members of the UNO are 193 countries.

The name “The United Nations Organization” was proposed by the president of the USA F.D.Roosevelt. the declaration was approved in San-Francisco on October 24, 1945.

This day is celebrated as the Day of the United Nations’ Organization.   Kazakhstan as a sovereign state became the 168-th state-member of the UNO on March 2, 1992, and on June 15, 1992 there by the Decree of the President of Kazakhstan was created the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the United Nations’ Organization.

From 1992 to 1999 the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the UNO was appointed Akmaral Khaidarovna Arystanbekova. The bright talent of the diplomat, the outstanding organizational abilities of A.Kh. Arystanbekova showed themselves in 1992 at the 46-th session of the General Assembly of the UNO. At the beginning of 2012 Kazakhstan was chosen into the Bureau of the Executive Council of the UNICEF.

The main goals of cooperation of Kazakhstan with the UNO are the advancement of our strategical interests at the international level and the attraction of the potential of the UNO for the solution of issues of development of Kazakhstan in many trends. In its cooperation Kazakhstan pays special attention to a number of priority trends: the international nuclear disarmament and the non-spreading of weapons of mass destruction; the fight with the trade of people; protection of peaceful population during the conflicts, especially women and children.

There for the first time in history the second in significance within the system of the UNO the post of Deputy General secretary of the UNO was occupied by Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, who at the same time was General director of the UNO department in Geneva,General secretary of the Conference for disarmament. His appointment became the testimony of the high professional and political level of the Kazakhstani representative and the acknowledgement of the authority of our state and its Head.

The activity of the UNO in Kazakhstan includesinto itself the UNO Development Programme (PROON), the UNO Children’s Foundation (UNICEF), the subregional office of the Foundation of the UNO in the sphere of population (UNFPA), the department of the UNO for the coordination of humanitarian issues. Today in Nur-Sultan and Almaty are the representations of 20 agencies of the UNO system with the extensive experience of work in different spheres.      

The book exhibition discloses the sections: “The main documents of the United Nations’ Organization”, “Sovereign Kazakhstan and the United Nations’ Organization”. There in the division “Sovereign Kazakhstan” at the exhibition are presented the works of Arystanbekova A.Kh.: the dissertation by the theme “The United Nations’ Organization: the history, the problems, the prospects”; the books - “The peaceful activity of the UNO”, “Globalization: History. Dynamics. Aspects. Sides. Prospects”, “The multilateral diplomacy in the conditions of globalization and the priorities of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, “The problem of nuclear disarmament”, “Participation of Kazakhstan in the international economic cooperation”, “The dynamics of the process of globalization”, “The liquidation of the threat of chemical and biological arms”, “The women in the UNO”, “France and the French vector in the external politics of Kazakhstan ”.
