зверевThere in the reading hall after Oraz Zhandosov of the Service “Kazakstan kitaptary” is organized the book exhibition “The indefatigable guard of nature”, dedicated to the 125-th birthday of the scientist, writer-naturalist, the people’s writer of Kazakhstan Maksim Dmitriyevich Zverev.

 

Maksim Dmitriyevich Zverev was born on November 29, 1896 in the Siberian city of Barnaul. In 1925 after graduating from the Tomskiy state university he was sent to the Siberian institute of plants’ protection where he worked for approximately 25 years. Participant of the Great Patriotic war.

Zverev is the founder of the regional agricultural teriology – the science about the biology of harmful mammalians and the fight with them. He was a participant of multiple scientific expeditions, he led his own independent observations in the field, he wrote scientific works, monographs, books. During the twenty five years of work the scientist-zoologist published more than 100 scientific works, he published 22 books of scientific-popular character. The scientific works which have practical meaning in the national economy, put him among the well-known ethnologists. He organized the Novosibirskiy zoological garden which subsequently became one of the largest and well-known zoos in Siberia.

There in the fond of National library of the RK are kept more than 250 materials about the life and activity of M. Zverev: his scientific works, fiction, translations, publications, notes and articles on the pages of the periodical press. The book exhibition “The indefatigable guard of Nature” acquaints the readers with the works of the people’s writer of Kazakhstan M. Zverev, and also discloses to the readers his multi-faceted personality.

In 1937 M. Zverev was sent to Kazakhstan for the organization of the Alma-Atinskiy zoological garden. In 1937-1952 – the teacher at the Kazakh state university after S.M. Kirov, deputy director for the scientific part of the Alma-Atinskiy zoo, later the Alma-Atinskiy preserve.

From 1952 M. Zverev started to be occupied with the literary creative activity. The greater part of the creative activity of the writer is connected with the nature of Kazakhstan – his spiritual and writer’s Motherland. For the first time in Kazakhstan he creates here the Station of young naturalists, after which there appeared the naturalistic almanac “The face of the Earth” for the beginner writers. By narrating about the plant and the animal world, he created the genuine encyclopaedia of Kazakhstani nature. There to the writer belong the multiple collections of short novels, stories, fairy-tales and essays: “The white maral” (1920), “In the hole and in the nest” (1937), “The meetings in the forest” (1938), “The preserve of the motley mountains” (1946), “In the Irtysh forests and steppes” (1950), “By the forest fire” (1952), “The golden saiga” (1957), “The hunter from Kokpek” (1963), “The wolf from the desert” (1975) and others.

The books of M. Sverev stand along the books of the well-known world writers, such as: S. Aksakov, J. London, E. Seton-Thompson, P. Prishvin, V. Bianki and others. The best works of the writer are translated into the Kazakh, Kirghiz, Uzbek and many other languages of the world. In 1956 the Alma-Atinskaya cinema studio shot the first colour feature film for children “The winged gift” by the scenario of M. Zverev, written in ao-authorship with the poet-song-writer and scenario-writer V.F. Shreiberg.

There for the outstanding merits in the development of the literature by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR M.D. Zverev was given the honorary title of “The people’s writer of the Kazakh SSR” (1987). The winner of the State prize of the Kazakh SSR (1982). Awarded with then orders of the Labour Red Banner, Friendship of the peoples and the Badge of Honour, four medals for the participation in the Great Patriotic war and the Honorary certificate of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR.
